self portrait, 2021

As a young image and video creator, I have always understood these practices as a way I have of expressing and discovering myself. Self portrait is a work where I intended to overturn my artistic vision and personality through the use of color and the interaction between image and sound. My name, Azul in Spanish, translates to Blue in English. It is not by chance that I feel strongly connected and represented by this pigment.  This work explores the color blue and seeks to conveys what it means to me.

The photographs you can see in the video are a personal archive of polaroids I have taken throughout my teen and pre teen years. This medium is very special to me since it has allowed me to explore photography from a very organic and raw place. It has been for me an intuitive way of learning photography and understanding how color works in an image. For this video I selected polaroids that present a blue palette in order to convey a sort of connection between the color and myself, in a way trying to transmit nostalgia, altogether denoting the power that the color posesses.

water stories, 2022

water stories is an ongoing project that I began intuitively in 2022 after purchasing a waterproof case for my camera. But what was once a mere desire to make underwater images turned into something deeper altogether. This previous summer, I intended to turn an aesthetic project into a series that alludes to the ocean as a space of exploration and discovery relating both to impersonal and interpersonal journeys.

Whilst exploring the underwater world as a place to make images, experimenting with video meant exploring how to capture bodies underwater working both with color, textures and sound to convey a feeling.

cloudspotting

cloudspotting is a project that has always been on my mind before even owning a camera. I have always been drawn to capturing clouds and their shapes. One summer I realized that the foam that used to lay above the seashore after a storm resembles clouds as being seen from above, as from an airplane. This worked as a trigger for me to create cloud spotting, a project that stands as the importance to see things for more than what they truly are.

ode to man ray, 2023

ode to man ray is a series inspired by the works of surrealist artist Emmanuel Radnitsky, whose images always inspired me to create photographs that transcended the image itself, encouraging me to create images that can impact the viewer by arising a feeling or thought. I intended to create a sequence that is merged by a strong contrasting monochromatic imagery, where light is able to make the subject stand out, positioning the eyes as a predominant element of the series, elevating their power and  trying to awake interest and attention in the viewer.

sangre - the side some (official video)

thesidesome is an emerging alternative music duo from Argentina. Together with Isabel, singersongwriter from the group, we created the script of a music video that is born with the idea of making an oneiric representation of introspection through visual imagery related to water, contributing to creating a visual identity to the duo's debut album, Aquarium, which  revolves around the mightiness of water.

worm hole, 2023

wormhole is a project that seeks to represent absurdism through the creation of grotesque and original characters that inhabit a non-existent physical space. It alludes to an introspective journey, a narrative told by beings who intend to represent the "crazy", self  incomprehended, unconscious beings that we harbor within us.  The title refers to a hypothetical space-time structure that functions as a portal, lasting a brief moment and uniting two black holes in different places.

The blank space where the characters extst intends to represent the inexistent physical space that our unconscious selves inhabit. By understanding our bodies as the habitat of our beings, when distorting or changing it, in a way I intend to represent something that is going on beneath, as well as pointing out the absurd human condition.

Macfarlane

Macfarlane is a series of photographs that I took with my siblings on a trip to Scotland, the land that harbors the roots of my family and surname. Before visiting the place I decided I would photograph my brother and sister in the landscape, reflecting on what it would have been like if we would have lived in the green hills like our ancestors.
